Antoine Griezmann, it’s over. The Frenchman ends a ten-year international career, after 137 caps and 44 goals. The 33-year-old striker has been one of the Blues’ standout stars throughout his international career, playing a key role in the 2018 World Cup victory. He also helped the Blues reach the final of Euro 2016 and that of the 2022 World Cup.
Recently, Griezmann did not start in Didier Deschamps’ starting lineup, starting on the bench during the Euro 2024 semi-final against Spain, and during the two Nations League matches in September.
A busy career
Griezmann’s 137 caps put him on par with Olivier Giroud, only behind Lilian Thuram (142) and Hugo Lloris (145). In terms of goals, only Giroud (57), Thierry Henry (51) and Kylian Mbappé (48) are ahead of him.
It will obviously represent a significant loss for the French team during its next campaigns and causes a big creative deficit. This announcement will nevertheless allow Griezmann to rest during the international breaks, and Atlético Madrid will undoubtedly benefit from it.
