Premier League: Arsenal wins with forceps against Leicester, Cole Palmer takes Chelsea against Brighton

Following on from the duel between Manchester City and Newcastle, five other matches counting for the 6th day of the Premier League were to follow this Saturday, including a thrilling match between Arsenal and Leicester. Pointing in fourth place before kick-off, the Gunners could take advantage of the poor performance of the Skyblues, held in check by the Magpies, to return to their height in the ranking. Victory was therefore imperative for Mikel Arteta, who retained the same starting XI as the previous day. Motivated by the stakes, the Londoners imposed heavy pressure on the Foxes. Having acquired possession of the ball, the Gunners chained passing sequences and increased the pace in the opposing camp. Destabilized, the visiting defense allowed itself to be caught behind by Saka, whose shot at the end of the race grazed Hermansen’s crossbar (15th). By pushing, Arsenal was rewarded and Martinelli opened the scoring by victoriously taking a cross from Timber (1-0, 19th).

Literally suffocated, the Foxes endured the debates outrageously until conceding a logical second goal before the break, Martinelli becoming a decisive passer for Trossard (2-0, 45th+2). Harmless during the first act, Leicester tried to reverse the trend upon returning from the locker room when Justin headed a free kick from Buonanotte to deceive Raya and reduce the score (2-1, 46th). Returning with better intentions, the Foxes began to cast doubt on the Gunners in search of a second wind. If Arsenal regained momentum, Gabriel stumbled on Hermansen (52nd) before Trossard hit the Danish goalkeeper’s post (57th). Clumsy in the last gesture, Arteta’s men were punished by Justin whose right volley mystified Raya (2-2, 63rd). With forceps, Arsenal won on the wire against Leicester City (4-2), came very close to a great feat and came back to level with Manchester City.

Chelsea and Palmer enjoy, Everton finally wins!

Undefeated since their inaugural defeat against Manchester City, Chelsea intended to continue their momentum against Brighton. Surprised by the early opening score of the Seagulls and Frenchman Rutter, scorer for the first time under his new colors (7th), the Blues quickly got back into working order by relying on their jewel, Palmer. Unhappy twice with a post found then a goal disallowed, the English prodigy persevered to allow his team to get back on track in Brighton. Subsequently, the England international once again lit up Stamford Bridge with his talent by scoring two other goals in quick succession, including a gem from a free kick (28th, 31st). If we thought that Chelsea had definitely taken off, Baleba revived his team by exploiting a risky recovery from Fofana (34th) before Palmer added a fourth goal to his credit, becoming the first player to score a quadruple in a single half in a Premier League match.

In a disjointed second act, Chelsea appeared more threatening than their Sussex counterpart. However, Jackson then Palmer burned a few cartridges along the way. Anecdotal misses since the London club flew towards victory and confirmed its return to the forefront, with a provisional third place at stake. Defeated by Chelsea last weekend then severely corrected by Liverpool in the EFL Cup in midweek, West Ham had to put out the fire on Brentford’s pitch or risk falling further in the standings. Very poorly off to a start following Crystal Palace’s opening score via Guehi (10th), Everton relied on McNeil, author of a double (47th, 54th), to turn the match around in its favor, securing the three points and finally take off in the rankings, temporarily abandoning her status as a bad student at Wolverhampton. Finally, Fulham carried out one of the operations of the day by dominating Nottingham Forest (0-1) with a short header to climb to the edge of the top 5.
