Girondins de Bordeaux managed to do this by securing the services of the Englishman Andy Carroll.
At the age of 35, the former Three Lions striker obviously no longer has the same performance as during his prosperous years. But his arrival in Gironde proves that the attractiveness of the Bordeaux club remains notable, despite the terrible setbacks of recent months.
Why Carroll chose Bordeaux
In comments given to RMC, Andy Carroll explained the real reasons for his choice. “ You know, I just love football and it was an opportunity to play for a big French club. It doesn’t matter what level you play at, in the end. I like playing football and that’s what I came here to do“.
“ I really hope we can achieve our goals this season. I like football. To be honest, it even cost me money to go play for the Girondins. But I play football and I’m just happy to play football. I want to be part of the history of this club and to be honest, it’s not about the money. In my career, it’s never been about money“, concluded Carroll, author of a double against Chateaubriant (2-2) for his big debut with the club on the scapular.
