Jose Mourinho said he felt “disrespected” when he was forced to wait 75 minutes for his post-match press conference following the defeat to Galatasaray.

Mourinho’s Fenerbahce were beaten 3-1 at home to Galatasaray in the Super Lig on Sunday – their first league defeat since the Portuguese took charge of the Istanbul giants ahead of the new season.

Mourinho complained about the treatment he received after the game at his team’s own stadium, as he said he was unable to hold his post-match press conference, leading to a fine. The former Manchester United boss said he wanted to speak to reporters but was instead treated with disrespect.

In 24 years of football, I have never avoided a press conference in my life, especially after a defeat. I have never been afraid of a journalist, a question or a press conference.” he said at a press conference ahead of his team’s Europa League match against Royale Union Saint-Gilloise.

“A lack of respect”

“So, it’s not with you that I was going to change my way of being. It makes no sense to wait 75 minutes to go to a press conference. The game is over, I congratulate the opposing coach, I go straight to the flash interview, then I waited 70 minutes to go to the press conference. I tried to go, I wasn’t allowed to go, I was in the door of the press conference trying to go, I wasn’t allowed to go. So it has nothing to do with the result, it has nothing to do with anything, it only has to do with something that is either correct or not correct.”

He added: “ I’m sorry, but that’s disrespectful. So if anyone felt disrespected, it was me.”The Turkish giants will be hoping to get their Europa League campaign off to a flying start when they take on the Belgian side at home on Thursday.
