After Lille this Tuesday, it was the turn of
Paris Saint-Germain to begin its campaign for the 2024-25 edition of the Champions League. This European evening was marked by several shocks.
Earlier in the evening, Bologna and Shakhtar Donetsk drew 0-0, while Czech side Sparta Prague beat RB Salzburg 3-0. Kairinen opened the scoring in the second minute, Olatunji doubled the lead before the break (42nd minute), and Laci sealed the victory in the second half (58th minute).
Manchester City stumbles against Inter Milan
The clash between Manchester City and Inter Milan, a remake of the 2023 final, ended in a draw (0-0). At the Etihad Stadium, the English champions failed to get the better of their opponents.
With 12 chances against 8 and 17 shots against 12, Erling Haaland and his teammates were neutralized by a well-positioned Nerazzurri, who were able to exploit the transitions, notably thanks to Marcus Thuram. Kevin De Bruyne, the Citizens’ conductor, had to leave the field at half-time, injured.
Celtic rolls, Dortmund offers Bruges
Celtic Glasgow, the only team of the evening to score in the first half, crushed Slovan Bratislava. Brendan Rodgers’ men continued after the break with goals from Scales (17th), Furuhashi (47th, sp), Engels (56th), Maeda (70th), and Idah (86th).
Borussia Dortmund had to wait until the last quarter of an hour to break the deadlock against Bruges. Young Jamie Bynoe-Gittens opened the scoring in the 76th minute, before doubling the lead ten minutes later. Finally, Serhou Guirassy sealed the victory by converting a penalty in added time (90+5th).
