Ousmane Dembélé is one of PSG’s men in form at the start of the season. In four games, he has already scored as much as he did throughout the entire past season. For this performance, the French international is entitled to compliments from all sides. But, there are also some who are not necessarily impressed. This is the case of Samir Nasri.
“With goals, Dembélé would have been another Mbappé”
On Canal+ this Wednesday, the former footballer declared that he will wait a little while before getting excited about Dembélé. “We’ve been talking about this finishing problem for years. He has everything else, he has all the qualities. If he had the goals, he would be another Mbappé. The problem is that he doesn’t have them and time is passing. We’ll be able to take stock at the end of the season. There have been too many moments where we said to ourselves “it’s good, he’s solved the problem”, before he fell back into his old ways.”
Nasri continued his analysis by suggesting that we are not demanding enough with Dembélé given his talent. “He’s a player who cost a lot of money. He has to be judged with a certain level. The salary and the transfer also mean that there is a certain consideration. Today, we’re going to put him in the top 10 players in his position. We have to compare him with those who play in his position. A guy like Salah, he scores 50 goals. He brings other things, but in this position and with the importance that the statistics have taken, he has to be more decisive.”
Present on the same set, the former Parisian David Ginola somewhat qualified the point by confiding: “He’s in a good phase, we have to let him progress. That won’t stop him from having waste. There’s no more Mbappé and the responsibilities on the attackers are no longer the same.”.
