As they prepare to begin their Champions League campaign, PSG must deal with four major absences.

Things are about to get serious for PSG. Having won their first four matches of the season in Ligue 1, the capital club is undergoing a first test in the Champions League. For their debut in the competition, the French champions are hosting Girona at the Parc des Princes. A baptism that four potential starters will miss, since the long-term absences of Presnel Kimpembe and Lucas Hernandez and that of Gonçalo Ramos have been added to the unavailability of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who is also injured.

In the absence of the Italian goalkeeper, it is his understudy Matvei Safonov, who arrived this summer from Krasnodar, who will officiate in goal. In front of him, captain Marquinhos and Pacho will form the central hinge while Nuno Mendes and Achraf Hakimi will occupy the wings.

Vitinha back in midfield

While Warren Zaire-Emery and Vitinha both failed to return to training on Monday after being injured on international duty, only Portugal are expected to start in the match. They will be joined by Joao Neves and Fabian Ruiz in a classic 4-3-3.

Up front, Marco Asensio should be retained at the top while Bradley Barcola and Ousmane Dembele will be responsible for animating the wings.

Paris SG: Safonov – Hakimi, Marquinhos (c), Pacho, Nuno Mendes – João Neves, Vitinha, Fabian Ruiz – Dembélé, Asensio, Barcola.

Girona: Gazzaniga – Arnau, David Lopez, Blind, Miguel Gutiérrez – Oriol Romeu, Ivan Martin (c), Solis – Tsygankov, Abel Ruiz, Danjuma.
