Deprived of several players, FC Barcelona could soon find one of the leaders of its team.

After a grueling 2023-2024 season, Frenkie De Jong is finally getting closer to a return to competition. The Dutch midfielder of FC Barcelona, regularly slowed down by injuries during the previous season, notably affected his ankle in September 2023. After a month of absence, he made his return in October, but a new relapse in March kept him away from the pitches again, before he returned in early April.

Unfortunately, fate seemed to be against the Arkel native. On April 22, during the Clasico against Real Madrid in La Liga, he injured his ankle again, ending his season. This setback also deprived him of Euro 2024 with the Netherlands, which was played in Germany.

De Jong back in team training

However, a glimmer of hope appeared on Monday: the Catalan club announced that its midfielder had been able to participate in part of the collective training. According to World SportsDe Jong had also confided that he had felt good sensations during his last individual training sessions.

It is worth noting that the player had chosen to refuse surgery, preferring to opt for conservative treatment. With the absences of Gavi, Fermin Lopez, Marc Bernal, Andreas Christensen and Dani Olmo, De Jong’s return in the coming weeks could prove crucial for the Blaugranas.
