A former Parisian hero questioned the choice Adrien Rabiot made in signing for OM.

Adrien Rabiot made headlines by joining Olympique de Marseille. A surprising choice for the month from a player who was trained at PSG and who defended the colors of the capital club for many years.

The French international hasn’t even landed in Marignane yet and he’s already faced violent barbs from Paris supporters. And it’s not just the team’s fans who are angry at him for this “betrayal”. Former Parisian players are also upset, like Vikash Dhorasoo.

“That was not Rabiot’s plan”

Speaking to Channel L’Equipe, where he works as a consultant, the hero of the 2006 Coupe de France final said: “I wonder what his motivations are. Why OM and not another club. How did he get there? Because I imagine that this is not the project at the start. He was supposed to aim for a bigger club at the start. He will have a good salary, but he is not playing in the Champions League.”

And when it is pointed out to Dhorasoo that this season’s OM is perhaps attractive enough to attract great players, he appears perplexed. “Marseille attractive? I don’t know. We could say that if there was something in front of it. Here, we don’t know what it had in front of it, we have the impression that it had nothing.”

“He’s not in trouble to sign for OM”

Besides Dhorasoo, Ludovic Obraniak also expressed his incomprehension regarding the decision taken by Rabiot:
“Players these days have become mercenaries (…) He still has a Parisian past. In the 90s, there were still a lot of them who went from one club to another. But, honestly, it’s hard for me to imagine playing for a rival. If you’re really struggling, you think about it because it’s your survival. But there, it’s not a question of survival for Rabiot.”
