Rennes did not need to force themselves to win against Montpellier this Sunday in Ligue 1.

After two defeats in a row, Stade Rennais had to react this Sunday afternoon, in front of its home crowd, against a decimated Montpellier. It’s done. And Julian Stéphan’s men didn’t need to force their talent to get the better of the Héraultais (3-0), on behalf of the 4e Ligue 1 day.

Following a free-kick combination, the man in form on the Rennes side, Ludovic Blas, put his team on the right track (1-0, 24e). Dominant, the Bretons increased their lead thanks to Arnaud Kalimuendo (2-0, 35e). Akor Adams thought he had reduced the deficit… but his goal was disallowed for offside after a lengthy VAR check (52).e).

Rennes gets back on track, Montpellier sinks

Gronbaek provided the assist for Blas’ opening goal, which logically put SRFC out of the way (3-0, 61e). Rennes then managed their lead, even if the score could have been even heavier for MHSC.

Things are going badly in Montpellier, which is on the back of a third defeat in a row. Der Zakarian’s men have not yet won and have only one point after 4 games. For its part, Rennes is back in the top half of the standings with 6 points on the clock.
