Paris Saint-Germain has denounced the racist abuse received by Nuno Mendes after his penalty conceded against Brest (3-1) on Saturday evening.

This is the main false note of the evening. Winner of Brest (3-1) on Saturday evening, thanks to a double from Ousmane Dembélé and a goal from Fabian Ruiz, Paris Saint-Germain had conceded the equalizer on a penalty from Romain Del Castillo.

The foul was committed by Nuno Mendes, guilty of having caught Ludovic Ajorque on a seemingly harmless cross. And for this error, the Portuguese full-back received a salvo of racist insults on social networks. The former Sporting player relayed them on his Instagram account.

PSG supports its player

This Sunday, PSG published a press release to denounce these actions. “Paris Saint-Germain gives its full support to its player Nuno Mendes, who was the target of insulting and racist remarks on social media on the sidelines of last night’s match against Stade Brestois,” the capital club said in a press release.

“Paris Saint-Germain does not tolerate any form of racism, anti-Semitism or any other form of discrimination. The racial insults directed at Nuno Mendes are completely unacceptable. We strongly support Nuno and all those concerned, and we are working with the authorities and relevant associations to ensure that those responsible are held accountable for their actions.”

“At Paris Saint-Germain, we are committed to fostering an environment of inclusion, respect and unity both on and off the pitch. Racism has no place in football and we will continue to uphold the values of tolerance and respect that define our club.”
