After not having recorded a single win in four league games (two defeats and two draws), Sevilla FC had to win tonight, against Getafe, if the club did not want to sink into a sporting crisis. And Garcia Pimienta’s men did so at the end of an intense match. The match quickly turned towards Sevilla. Jesus Navas, receiving a cross from Adrian Pedrosa in the area, propelled the ball into the left top corner of the opposing goalkeeper’s goal (23rd, 1-0).
Shortly before the end of the first half, Sevilla came close to doubling the lead with a great opportunity from Isaac Romero, who went off target (46th). After the break, Getafe thought they could finally get back into the game thanks to Bertug Yildirim (65th), but the assistant referee signalled an offside position despite the player’s protest. At the end of the match, Juanlu Sanchez’s red card (87th) did not change the final score. This result allows the Sevillians to take a breather after their confused start. The club is currently in 12th place in La Liga with 5 points. Their opponents for the evening have dropped to 18th place with just 3 points.
