Without a club since leaving Atlético Madrid in June, Memphis Depay chose Brazil to bounce back by signing for Corinthians. However, the 30-year-old striker who played for Olympique Lyonnais could have had a very different fate as he was the subject of keen interest from Rayo Vallecano. After attracting James Rodríguez to their net, the Madrid team wanted to pull off a new coup by securing the services of an experienced striker. Despite everything, the Spanish club’s interest in the Dutchman never materialized, much to the dismay of its president Raúl Martín Presa.
“He wasn’t close, he was an option but someone should have left. There was interest in some of our strikers, Raul De Tomas and others, but the offers didn’t satisfy us and it didn’t come to fruition“, revealed the Iberian leader on the airwaves of the Chain Ser.
