Luis Enrique has not changed his methods. When he arrived at Paris Saint-Germain last year, the Spanish coach insisted that his players themselves choose who they wanted to have as captain. And like last year, the Parisian locker room made the same choice by offering the armband to Marquinhos. This time, the vote was not marred by controversy.
In 2023, a first vote by show of hands, considered informal, had brought Marquinhos towards the captaincy. But the method had not pleased everyone, especially since the defender was no longer as indisputable in his role, according to some members of the locker room. It had been necessary to organize a second vote in good and due form, by secret ballot. Without a different result since once again, the Brazilian had finished in the lead.
Three substitutes
A year later, everything has gone much more smoothly. Present since 2013 at Paris Saint-Germain, Marquinhos will therefore continue with yet another term as captain, he who has occupied the role since his compatriot and former teammate, Thiago Silva, left Paris for Chelsea in the summer of 2020. Other votes did, however, take place during the small team meeting, to elect the vice-captains.
Again, no real surprise since these are experienced figures and players who have been designated by the partners. Three vice-captains will be able to replace Marquinhos in case of absence for any reason: Presnel Kimpembe, Achraf Hakimi and Gianluigi Donnarumma. This weekend, PSG hosts Stade Brestois (Saturday, 9 p.m.), for a match between Champions League participants. Marquinhos should be there, with his armband.
