Marseille have made a great start to the championship, with 7 points taken from a possible 9. A strong start, which is largely due to Roberto De Zerbi. In the space of a handful of months, the Italian coach has managed to completely transform this team.
When asked about the secrets of his job, the former Brighton manager said he had none. That all the credit went to his players, their talent and the commitment they show.
Hojbjerg under the spell of De Zerbi
But his protégés are not entirely of this opinion. For example, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg believes that De Zerbi is clearly a big part of OM’s return to the forefront. “His way of playing, his way of working, his way of putting positive pressure on a daily basis… I like it, he declared on BFM Marseille. It’s easy to follow because you have to put intensity and seriousness into the work. He’s very precise about what he wants us to do. We have a lot of fun with him.”
The Dane went on to say that even on a human level De Zerbi stands out from other coaches: “He is a very gifted coach. A coach with a big heart. Technically, obviously he is special, but behind the coach there is an exceptional man.”
