De Bruyne shocks: the statement that doesn’t go down well

Kevin De Bruyne made some very controversial comments in Belgium this week.

“Yes, France is stronger than us. There is not much more to say. We were six at the back, there was no connection. Even in the second half, when we were behind, there was no transition. But it is not only the transition that was not good, but also the way we played. Some players did not do their jobs. That is where the problem comes from. Period. I can accept that we are no longer as good as in 2018, I am the first to have said that, but other things are unacceptable.”

These words,
signed Kevin De Bruyne after Belgium’s defeat against the French team in the Nations League on Monday evening (0-2), did not go unnoticed. Marc Degryse, former Belgian international, clearly put the attacking midfielder back in his place.

“De Bruyne should defend his teammates, but he didn’t”

“I think he goes too far, thundered the consultant for VTM. Kevin talks about a lack of dynamism and commitment. And he is right. If quality is lacking, you have to at least show that you want to fight. But he must also understand that his teammates are at their limit.

“De Bruyne should have defended his teammates, but he didn’t, continued the former Belgian international. If he (coach Domenico Tedesco, editor’s note) discovers that De Bruyne’s comments have been badly received in the group, he will have to intervene vigorously.”
