After the racist chant taken up by the Argentinian players after the Copa America, Wesley Fofana recounts how he explained himself to Enzo Fernandez during their reunion at Chelsea.

They play for France but come from Angola, they are going to run well, they like to fuck trans. Their mother is Nigerian, their father is Cambodian but on the passport: French. Here are the lyrics of this famous chant created by the Argentinian supporters after the 2022 World Cup, and which were taken up by the Albiceleste players after their victory in the Copa America this summer.

The video had been posted by Enzo Fernandez, and since Wesley Fofana was one of the French players who expressed their anger and disgust after this sequence seen in France as unabashed racism, we could expect an explosive reunion at Chelsea when training resumed. In the end, the two men were able to explain themselves quite calmly.

Fofana: “It was important that he understood”

“It was resolved in a very good way, says Fofana in an interview with Free Foot. He came back, we had a discussion with the club, with the coach, we had a meeting. We explained why we had taken it badly, because it was important that he understood why it was not good to do it. We understood in his speech that for him, he had not understood that he could hurt us, he had not understood that it was something serious.

“The best thing to do is to educate him,
continues the French defender of Chelsea. There are things that are acceptable in some countries but are very serious in other countries, and are punished by justice. I think he understood. Now we are moving forward, we are a team.”
