Lionel Messi’s return to MLS remains uncertain after he missed Inter Miami’s training session ahead of their clash against Philadelphia Union.

Inter Miami are preparing for their clash with Philadelphia Union this weekend, and the Herons have been put through their paces in training, but the Miami Herald reports that Messi was absent. He was expected to return this weekend after a two-month absence.

Messi’s bodyguard Yassine Chueko was present while members of the media watched the video, indicating that the player was indeed at the Miami training base, potentially training alone. The club has not commented on whether he suffered any other injury or setback in his recovery, and the Herald points out that he may have participated in training sessions that were not open to the media.

Messi still absent

Miami leads the race to win the Supporters Shield with just seven games left this season. Messi has missed 20 of 35 games so far this year, but he is expected to return as the Herons chase a first MLS Cup.

Miami plays Union this weekend, and the Floridians are hoping to reintroduce Messi to the field, provided he is fit enough to play.
