La Liga president Javier Tebas has responded to Vinicius Jr.’s controversial comments about racism in Spain.

“If things don’t change before 2030, I think we’ll have to change the location (for the World Cup).” In a recent interview with CNN, Vinicius Jr. did not mince his words about Spain, which will host the World Cup in six years. The reason for his anger? Racism, which he regularly experiences in La Liga. “I hope that Spain will evolve and understand how serious it is to insult someone because of the colour of their skin”he added.

Tebas responds to Vinicius

Strong words that did not fail to make the local political class react, with the Madrid mayor asking them to
“immediately rectify his statements”. Also questioned on this thorny subject this week, on the sidelines of a trip to Beijing where he signed an agreement to broadcast the Spanish championship in China, the president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, sharply reprimanded the Brazilian striker of Real Madrid, judging his remarks “incoherent”.

“If you look, you will see that his statements are not entirely consistent with what he himself says in the interview.the leader said. At the same time that he was saying that maybe the World Cup should not be considered, he was also saying that Spain was not a racist country. Let’s take away what is inconsistent and stick with what is consistent: Spain is not a racist country, and I agree with Vinícius on that.”
