Mason Greenwood’s transfer to OM has caused a stir. While the Englishman shines on the pitch, his arrival continues to divide opinion.

This summer, Olympique de Marseille struck a major coup by acquiring Mason Greenwood. Arriving on the Canebière from Manchester United for 26 million euros, the English striker has already established himself as the spearhead of the Marseille attack, with 5 goals and an assist in just 3 Ligue 1 games.

However, the former Red Devils prodigy continues to cause controversy due to accusations of rape and domestic violence that have been levelled against him in the past.

“I thought it was ballsy.”

Joey Barton, Greenwood’s compatriot and former OM player, admitted understanding the negative reactions that followed this transfer. However, he supports the Marseille club’s choice to offer him a fresh start.

“When I read that OM wanted Mason, I thought that was ballsy. When he signed, I was happy. Because it was the right thing to do. It’s politically incorrect to recruit Mason, but you have to tell yourself that he’s a kid who made a mistake and who deserves a second chance.”Barton said on Canal +.
