Marc Bernal has had a difficult start with FC Barcelona. The former Masia player suffered a lateral meniscus injury during the victory against Rayo Vallecano (1-2) on August 27 in La Liga.
The Catalan club announced this Monday that the young defensive midfielder underwent surgery this morning at the Barcelona hospital. Unfortunately, as feared, the severity of his injury will keep him away from the pitch for a long time.
The verdict is in for Bernal
According to the club’s official statement, the Spanish international will be out for at least 12 months, the time needed for his rehabilitation.
Aged 17, Marc Bernal played the 2023-24 season with the Barcelona B team before making his first steps with the first team at the start of the 2024-25 season.
He was selected as a double pivot player by coach Hansi Flick in the first team’s wins against Valencia (1-2) and Athletic Bilbao (2-1).
