New England manager Lee Carsley has provided an update on Mason Greenwood’s future following his move to Marseille.

England face the Republic of Ireland on Saturday in Carsley’s first game in charge of the Three Lions since taking over from Gareth Southgate. Ahead of the game, Carsley was asked whether he had considered calling up Mason Greenwood to his squad after the forward’s prolific start to the season with Marseille.

But the technician did not consider this possibility, as he explained during a press conference: “He was not a player we considered. I am aware of his performances but he was not considered.”

Greenwood back in the national team?

Greenwood has scored five goals in three games for Marseille after completing a permanent transfer from Manchester United in the summer.

The attacker has already been labelled as ” best player in Ligue 1″ after his prolific start to the season. Former Marseille and England star Chris Waddle also said he believes Carsley “would take note” Greenwood’s form with Roberto De Zerbi’s team.
