La Roja will travel to Belgrade to face Serbia, aiming to get their 2024-25 campaign off to a strong start. The last 15 months have been a golden period for Spanish football at international level, with the senior men’s national team fresh off the back of Euro 2024 wins. Speaking to the media on Wednesday (via Diario AS), Luis de la Fuente revealed how he sees his team’s next cycle.
“We want to continue improving, growing, incorporating new players and new records. And we want to continue being the best. The competition is different every time, the opponents grow a lot and playing against Spain is another motivation. The only way to grow is to continue moving forward. We have to continue doing things much better.”
A slight injury
It has been revealed in recent days that Lamine Yamal is suffering from discomfort suffered in Barcelona’s win over Real Valladolid last Saturday, which puts him in doubt to face Serbia. However, de la Fuente is counting on him.
“His discomfort comes suddenly, nothing more. Let’s not look any further. I saw him calm, he is a very calm boy, a very mature young man for his age. With us, he behaves like a person more mature than his age. We also transmit this calmness. He has to get used to having the spotlight on him, but he is ready for it and he will continue to grow and mature.”
