The 23-year-old Brazil international has scored 17 goals for Los Blancos in the 2023-24 campaign, which has seen them win domestic and continental crowns. He has made over 50 appearances in all competitions, becoming a key figure in Carlo Ancelotti’s plans.
Rodrygo has retained his place in Real’s starting XI at the start of the current season, despite the arrival of World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe and young prodigy Endrick at the Santiago Bernabeu providing him with additional competition for the striker spots.
Rodrygo gets annoyed
The South American was however overlooked for the most prestigious individual award in world football. France Football found no place for Rodrygo in their list of contenders for the title of best player on the planet, leading the Real forward to remind them of his exploits, while adding a laughing emoji for good measure.
While Rodrygo has been ruled out, several of his Madrid colleagues are in the running for the 2024 Ballon d’Or. Vinicius Junior and Jude Bellingham are considered serious contenders for the award, while Dani Carvajal, Toni Kroos, Antonio Rudiger and Fede Valverde are also considered, alongside Mbappe.
