Lamine Yamal has become the youngest footballer to be nominated for the Ballon d’Or award.

The veil was lifted this Wednesday on the 30 names who will apply for the France Football Ballon d’Or this year. Within this list is a player who has not even reached maturity yet. This is of course Lamine Yamal.

The Barça and Spanish national team prodigy was selected among the candidates, even though he is only 17 years and 53 days old. He is simply the youngest nominee in the history of this competition.

Lamine Yamal can aim for a double

The one who held this mark before is the Brazilian Neymar. The former PSG player was barely 19 years old when he was selected for the 2011 edition.

Other young prodigies had also been nominated before their 20th birthday, like Wayne Rooney (2004), Michael Owen (1998) and Patrick Kluivert (1995).

The Ballon d’Or is not the only prize that Lamine Yamal can hope to win at the end of the year. The Blaugrana genius is also among the candidates for the Kopa prize, the one that rewards the best young player of the season.
