PSG deprived of the French championship title?

The big favourite in Ligue 1, PSG does not appear invincible in the eyes of some of its competitors.

Three games, three wins. PSG have started their new season perfectly, seeming to cope well with the departure of Kylian Mbappé. The attack is also a big part of the capital club’s good start to the season. After winning 4-1 in Le Havre in the opening match, the Red and Blue followed up with a 6-0 victory over Montpellier and won 3-1 in Lille on Sunday, for what was their first test of the season.

With nine points on the clock, the French champions have already taken the reins of the championship but in their wake, Olympique de Marseille, Monaco and Lens are hoping to give the Parisians a hard time. This is particularly true for OM, who have made a very convincing debut thanks in particular to Mason Greenwood, who some already see as the best player in the championship.

“They are not invincible”

The former Mancunian is not, however, the only Marseille player to have his best form at the start of the season. The same is true of Quentin Merlin, who had to step in in midfield alongside the Dane Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg during the first match. Questioned at a press conference on the sidelines of the Espoirs gathering, the former Nantais was particularly ambitious.

“Our goal is to go as far as possible, we have ambitions, with a Champions League objective. If we can go and tease PSG… They are not invincible, even if they remain a good team, he said in comments relayed by RMC Sport. We have the capacity to cause them problems, to hang on to them, but we remain humble. It is up to us to perform, to continue to have results, consistency.”

The two historic rivals of the championship will meet on October 27 for the first Classic of the season, at the Vélodrome.
