African Ballon d’Or 2023 and finalist of the Africa Cup of Nations last February, Victor Osimhen (25 years old) arrived at a crossroads this summer. Two years before the end of his contract with Napoli, the Nigerian striker was put on the transfer market by his club which was waiting for a good offer.
Chelsea came forward as did Saudi club Al-Ahli but the former did not budge when the latter opted for Ivan Toney. While Romelu Lukaku arrived in Naples to take over from him and had not been registered for Serie A by his club, Victor Osimhen was in a dead end.
Galatasaray brings in Victor Osimhen
Taking advantage of the fact that the transfer window was still open in Turkey, the Istanbul team Galatasaray moved its pawns to snatch the arrival of Victor Osimhen. Despite the presence of Dries Mertens and Mauro Icardi, Galatasaray pushed to bring in Victor Osimhen and an agreement was reached for a dry loan of the player.
Proud to announce this news, the Turkish club made this arrival official via a press release: “An agreement has been reached with professional footballer Victor James Osimhen and his club SSCN Napoli SPA regarding the temporary free transfer of the player. The footballer will receive a net seasonal salary of 6,000,000 euros for the 2024-2025 season. It is announced to the public with respect.” For its part, Napoli confirms the automatic extension with the loan: “SSC Napoli announces that it has temporarily transferred the sporting services of footballer Victor Osimhen to Galatasaray until June 30, 2025. At the same time, the Club has reached an agreement with the player for an option, in his favor, to renew the contract until June 30, 2027.”
