Mason Greenwood has had a thunderous start to the season in the colours of
Marseille Olympics. Last Saturday, the England international added two more goals to his tally. Currently the top scorer in the French championship with five goals, the former Manchester United player became the first footballer to be so effective after three matches, since Mario Balotelli in 2016.
Daniel Riolo seems to be particularly impressed by the level of the 22-year-old striker. “In terms of pure quality, over the first three games, Greenwood is perhaps the best player in
Ligue 1. We’re not going to talk about the past and the fact that he’s banned from England, we all know his story. We’re going to talk about the terrain, it’s extraordinary,” explained the sports journalist on Monday evening on RMC.
Greenwood, the new star of L1
And Gilbert Brisbois’ sidekick continued:
“It’s maybe two or three flashes per match but it’s sharp, crazy. His precision, his speed of execution, we’re facing a guy who has qualities that are well above average. He’s above Ligue 1, he’s a very great player.”
Mason Greenwood is the first player from the Marseille club to have scored as many goals after three league games since Edmond Weiskopf in… 1937! On July 18, the Bradford native arrived in the Marseille city for a fee of 31 million euros.
