German coach Julian Nagelsmann has decided to appoint a new boss for his team.

The German national team will begin a new chapter, after hosting the Euro at home. And a new chapter necessarily means a new captain.

During the continental tournament, Ilkay Gundogan wore the armband. However, the Manchester City player is no longer in the squad. Nor is Toni Kroos, who has bowed out. Julian Nagelsmann, the coach, has therefore had to find a new leader.

Nagelsmann and Germany trust in the old guard

The German coach’s choice logically fell on Joshua Kimmich. With his 92 international caps, the Bayern Munich player is logically one of the veterans in this selection.

If he is absent, Antonio Rudiger will take over the captaincy. And if the latter were, in turn, to abandon his team, Kai Havertz will have the mission of guiding the quadruple world champions.

The Mannschaft will start its Nations League campaign on Saturday with a duel against Hungary, followed by an away game three days later against historic rivals the Netherlands.
