Monaco a little better off than Paris

AS Monaco inherited a dense but balanced first phase this Thursday during the draw for the new format Champions League.

ASM played at home this Thursday during a draw for the initial phase of the Champions League organized at the Grimaldi Forum, on the Rock. With a tough verdict, certainly, but also balanced. Without doubt more than the menu inflicted on a PSG with very little luck.

Despite its status as a team from the fourth pot, Monaco in this new formula was not penalized, inheriting like everyone else two teams from each of the four pots. As for the first choices, the club from the Principality inherited FC Barcelona at Louis-II and Inter at Milan.

Matches accessible at home

Formidable and feared by the variety of clubs composing it, pot 2 has reserved for the Monegasques an opposition to Benfica, at home, and to Arsenal, in London. The Red Star of Belgrade and Aston Villa will also present themselves on the Rock. When the ASM will have to go to Zagreb and Bologna.

As a reminder, the eight matches thus scheduled will place Monaco in a hierarchy of 36 clubs. The first eight will directly access the round of 16. A play-off will determine the other eight rounds between the teams ranked from ninth to 24.e places. For the entrants positioned from the 25e at 36e ranks, it will be the end of the European Cup.
