It’s done. Lille OSC will play in the 2024-2025 edition of the Champions League. This Wednesday evening, the Dogues qualified for the League phase by eliminating Slavia Prague despite losing 2 goals to 1.

A qualification that allows French clubs to make history. Indeed, 4 French teams will play in the group stage during a Champions League season for the first time in history (Paris SG, AS Monaco, Stade Brestois, Lille OSC).

This Thursday, these 4 French clubs will know their future opponents for this first phase. The draw will take place this Thursday at 6 p.m.

New format in C1

The Champions League is changing format starting this season. The new formula of the cup with the big ears will include a single group where each team will face eight different opponents. Exit the 32 teams divided into 8 groups of 4. Now make way for 36 teams in a single group.

Within the single pool, each club will face 8 different opponents, classified in 4 pots. This Thursday, August 29, the draw will also be redesigned. A software will replace the classic draw.

At the end of the eight matches, a ranking will be established, where the first 8 teams will be directly qualified for the round of 16. The teams finishing between 9th and 24th place will play play-offs, equivalent to the round of 16. Then return to the traditional format until the final, which will be played this season in Munich.
