After a season at FC Barcelona, Ilkay Gundogan will make his return to Manchester City. The German midfielder, who had quickly established himself as a pillar of the Catalan dressing room, is therefore leaving the Camp Nou hastily after having been one of the few to give satisfaction during the last season.
Indeed, the financial difficulties of the Blaugranas, forced to reduce their wage bill in order to register their new summer recruit Dani Olmo, have overcome Gundogan’s desire to continue his adventure in Barcelona colours.
A return almost a done deal
This Thursday, Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that the 33-year-old and the Skyblues are finalizing the last details of his return to the Etihad Stadium. According to the transfer specialist, the Gundogan is expected to sign a one-year contract, until June 2025, with an additional year as an option.
As a reminder, the former Dortmunder’s comeback had been personally validated by City coach Pep Guardiola. Very keen to find one of his key players in midfield, the Spanish coach quickly gave his approval to find the former captain of the Mannschaft.
