Despite Gonçalo Ramos suffering an ankle injury against Le Havre (4-1) and being unavailable for three months, Paris Saint-Germain publicly assures that they have a squad complete enough to fill the Portuguese striker’s long absence. Behind the scenes, however, the capital club is working hard to find a replacement. In the first hours following Ramos’ injury, the Italian press was unanimous in stating that the Reds and Blues had set their sights on Atalanta striker Ademola Lookman. The hero of the Europa League final who scored a hat-trick against Xabi Alonso’s Bayer Leverkusen (3-0).

The 26-year-old Nigerian, who has scored 24 goals in 62 Serie A matches since joining the Dea, had also been very receptive to the Parisian interest. The Italian media had revealed that he quickly reached a contractual agreement with PSG, before asking its leaders not to be part of the group that went to Lecce (4-0) for the first day of Serie A. Faced with the Parisian interest, Atalanta had then tried to protect itself by ensuring that it would demand between €50 and €60 million for its star. A situation that had logically annoyed the coach of the Bergamo club, Gian Piero Gasperini.

Lookman soon to return to his club

Right now I’m sailing a bit blind. Nobody expected to find themselves in this situation. After the Europa League final, I had a lot of plans for the future, but we had to face several difficulties, especially with injuries like Scamacca’s. The club reacted well by bringing in players like Retegui, but I don’t know what will happen in the next two weeks. (…) They are two great players (Lookman and Koopmeiners, courted by Juventus, editor’s note) who have given us so much, I am very grateful to them and I have a sincere relationship with them. The difficulty comes from the fact that the market is absurd in terms of dates. Keeping the market open while matches resume is madness. »

Since then, Atalanta seem set to keep Lookman. Sky Italy announced yesterday evening that this track has gone cold for the player, because PSG has still not done anything concrete to recruit him. Same story in the columns of the day of the Sports Gazette. Enough to make the current leader of the Serie A standings happy. We want to prove that we do not want to give up our important players. We did not expect certain things, but we are calm. The club has respected its duties, proof of the strength of our institution “, declared the manager Luca Percassi. Be careful, however, of the traditional twists and turns at the end of the transfer window…
