The Marseille “loft” may soon lose its most prominent member. According to journalist Sacha Nabet, Chancel Mbemba was notified of his future dismissal for serious misconduct on Tuesday. The Congolese defender, appreciated by the Marseille public and author of two good seasons at OM, was until now one of the undesirables designated by Roberto De Zerbi and the OM management. La Provence, for its part, indicates on the contrary that the club absolutely does not want to give satisfaction to Mbemba and is first considering a salary deduction.
Despite several offers, notably from the Gulf countries, accepted by the Pablo Longoria-Mehdi Benatia pair, the former FC Porto player declined and remained in the waiting room. The reason for the supposed serious misconduct has so far only been partially mentioned. The rumor of an altercation with a club official has been put forward, but this outcome, if confirmed, looks more like a maneuver on the part of OM to part with one of its most important salaries.
Things get tense with the lofters!
According to the same source, Chancel Mbemba has already agreed with another club for this season. Mbemba, 30, has played 85 matches and scored 13 goals in the Marseille jersey since his arrival in 2022.
According to RMC, the relationship between the Marseille management and the players in the “loft” – Jordan Veretout and Samuel Gigot to name but two – is getting worse by the day, with the players concerned refusing to accept any transfer until the last minute. “If a player doesn’t help the club and makes fun of us, we won’t give him any gifts”an OM official reportedly declared privately to the southern media.
