The French team certainly needs a breath of fresh air. And the French squad has in any case lost one of its key players, Olivier Giroud, who retired from international football and flew to Los Angeles to play with Hugo Lloris. Didier Deschamps should therefore call up a new attacking player for the start of the new Nations League season, with clashes against Italy on Friday 6 September at the Parc des Princes (the Stade de France being used for the Paralympic Games), then Belgium on Monday 9 at the Parc OL.
As RMC indicates, the staff of the Blues is thinking of calling Michael Olise for the next gathering, “La Dèche” being expected on Thursday next week to unveil his new group. In the wake of Euro 2024 in Germany, where the team led by captain Kylian Mbappé disappointed (until a semi-final lost against the future champion, Spain), Olise shone brightly with the Olympic selection led by Thierry Henry during the football tournament of the Paris Olympics. Number 10 or right winger, he scored two goals and gave five assists until the final lost against the Spanish, on August 9. All observers now expect him in A!
Deschamps to end the suspense
The French team cannot reasonably pass up such a talent. “Mike” Olise has the distinction of being born in London to a Nigerian father and a French mother of Algerian origin. He can therefore represent four national teams and the player trained at Chelsea would most certainly have become an England international if he had not been kicked out of the Blues Academy. He finished his training at Reading and was called up to the French U18s in 2019. He now dreams of playing for the French team, where he would be a quality competitor to Ousmane Dembélé but also to his new teammate Kinglsey Coman. The left-footer revealed at Crystal Palace must indeed assert himself at Bayern, who recruited him for 60 million euros (excluding bonuses).
New for this new edition of the UEFA Nations League: the top two of the four groups will face each other in two-legged quarter-finals on 20 and 23 March 2025. The four winners will then meet for the Final Four at the beginning of June (at one of the four countries still in the running). The French team also faces Israel in Group 2 of League A.
