Continuation and end of the first day of Serie A this Monday evening with two matches on the program. Before Juventus’ entry into the competition this evening, it was Atalanta who were called to work. Traveling to Puglia on the Ettore Giardiniero stadium pitch, Gian Piero Gasperini’s troops had to fill up on confidence against Lecce, while several key players such as Gianluca Scamacca, Nicolo Zaniolo, Giorgio Scalvini and Ademola Lookman (on the PSG tablets) were absent from the match sheet for various reasons (injuries, suspensions, transfers in progress).

Nevertheless, it was a successful return to school for the Dea. Indeed, the Bergamasques quickly took the lead with the opening goal from summer recruit Marco Brescianini (35th). Largely dominant, Atalanta then put themselves out of harm’s way, shortly before the break, thanks to another summer reinforcement in the person of Italian international Mateo Retegui (45th). The 25-year-old Italian-Argentine even scored a double in the second half (57th), before his teammate Brescianini imitated him a few minutes later (66th). A walk in the park for the Europa League title holders (0-4) who will face Torino next Sunday.
