After weeks of speculation, negotiations, and back-and-forth, Désiré Doué has chosen to sign for PSG. Despite strong interest from Bayern Munich, the 19-year-old midfielder was made official as the capital club’s new player this Saturday. A transfer that should bring in nearly 50 million euros to Stade Rennais. In a press release published by Paris, the Olympic vice-champion delivered his first words as a Parisian player.
The eccentric attacking midfielder first gave the reasons that pushed him to join the capital club. A decision which, according to him, was an obvious one: “It’s a great joy to join Paris Saint-Germain. I feel excitement but also a lot of happiness and pride. It’s a dream come true today. I can’t wait to discover the Parc des Princes with this jersey on my shoulders and to play in front of this crowd. Paris Saint-Germain is the best team in France and one of the best in Europe. The project is very ambitious and we want to win a lot of titles and go far in all competitions. I’m an ambitious boy so it spoke to me very quickly.»
Désiré Doué wants to continue to progress with PSG
With the departure of Kylian Mbappé, Paris Saint-Germain has decided to bet on the new generation of French players. While Warren Zaïre-Emery and Bradley Barcola are already at the club, the Parisian leaders have thus got their hands on Doué to strengthen this contingent of French nuggets. Following in the footsteps of his friends is a clear objective for Doué as he stated this Saturday: “I have friends, comrades here like Bradley and Warren. They have had the chance to play a lot here and to progress well. We see today that they have a very good place here and in the selection. It makes you dream and it makes me want to follow in their footsteps.”
Despite his young age, the Angers native still thinks he has the qualities to make his mark in Paris. While Kylian Mbappé became famous with a long tirade about age, Désiré Doué seems to share the same point of view as his elder: “Age is not a criterion for me. When you are on the pitch, it is talent that counts and the qualities that you can put forward to help the team. I am ready to take on this challenge and I have always wanted to play for the biggest clubs. I am a football lover and it excites me. Playing for PSG is a dream come true. I can’t wait to hear the crowd sing and see the Parc des Princes. I had the chance to play here in the final of the Games and I was very happy about it. It is a huge pleasure.”
However, Désiré Doué knows that he still has a lot to do to show the extent of his talent in Paris. Already very interesting, the former Rennes player knows that he still has to progress. To do this, Doué is counting on Luis Enrique and the Champions League: “I was able to discover the Europa League with Stade Rennais and I will be able to discover the Champions League here. I am a player who still has to improve because I have a lot to learn. He is a great coach and a big name in football. He was a player and he was the coach of Spain and FC Barcelona. He will be able to bring me a lot on the human aspect and on the field.” Ambitious and sure of his strengths, Désiré Doué is eager to show his qualities in the colours of PSG.
