Gündoğan was not part of the Barcelona squad that beat Valencia 2-1 on Saturday, with manager Flick saying the 33-year-old was “dizzy” and they had agreed he would not play in the game. With rumours swirling that the Germany international wants to leave the La Liga side after just one year, Flick has provided an update on the midfielder’s future – without giving too much away.
He said, via Sport: “ As you know, he had some problems and felt a little dizzy. We agreed that he would stay home and I spoke to him to see how he was feeling, but what we said to each other remains between us. I have a feeling he will stay”.
Gündoğan to Türkiye
Gündoğan swapped Manchester City for Barcelona last summer after seven years, but rumours suggest he wants to leave, amid interest from Jose Mourinho’s Fenerbahce and the Saudi Pro League. The German has one year left on his contract and if he receives a good offer, Barca are unlikely to stand in his way.
After their victory to open the new La Liga season, Barcelona will return to action next Saturday at home to Athletic Club. It remains to be seen whether Gundogan will still be in the Catalan squad for that game or when the transfer window closes at the end of August.
