Paris Saint-Germain has certainly struck a major blow in the summer transfer window. Determined to strengthen its midfield, the capital club has, in fact, paid 60 million euros (excluding bonuses) to acquire the young João Neves, who arrived from Benfica. If this investment raised some questions among some observers, the first appearance of the 19-year-old Portuguese has undoubtedly reassured. Substitute at kick-off, Friday evening, during the first day against HAC – Luis Enrique having decided to trust Ibrahim Mbaye (16 years old) – the native of Tavira was finally able to show the full extent of his talent after returning from the locker room.

Coming into play at half-time, the Portuguese international (9 caps) has acclimatised perfectly to the Parisian collective. Manhandled by the Normandy team, the Red and Blue, held on until the last moments, were thus able to rely on the technical accuracy of Neves and his ability to carry the ball forward. Better still, the player concerned, solid in the duel and credited with a 6.5 by the FM editorial team, delivered his first two assists to allow the Parisians to regain the advantage. After finding Ousmane Dembélé, the header scorer, on a good cross, the summer recruit shifted Bradley Barcola, author of the third goal for the Parisian.

João Neves already decisive…

A perfect introduction for the 1m74 right-hander, now tied to PSG until June 2029. Interviewed on the microphone of DAZN A few moments after this first victory (4-1), number 87 preferred to put the collective forward. “I think it’s a very good way to start the season. I’m very happy to be here. I hope I can continue to help the team. The most important thing is the team, it will always be like that for me.”. A performance which, in any case, did not escape his partners, like Ousmane Dembélé, highlighting the quality of his new partner’s passing on the second goal.

“I don’t score much with my head but João’s cross was perfect, I just have to push and try to put it to the side”. Asked, in turn, about Neves’ debut, Luis Enrique was also enthusiastic. “I call him pure energy at the service of the team. We will help him. He has qualities of mobility, courage to go into the penalty area, last pass, defense. The supporters will love him.”warned the former Barça technician. One thing is certain, if the capital club is worried about the health of Gonçalo Ramos, the great debut of João Neves will remain, for its part, a very beautiful success. A good omen for the rest of the season…
