Le Havre – PSG: what first eleven for Luis Enrique?

Published:

By: Manu Tournoux

For the first time in 7 years, Paris Saint-Germain, the reigning French champion, will start its Ligue 1 season without its star: Kylian Mbappé, who made a remarkable debut with Real Madrid. On the pitch at the Stade Océane, the capital club should, however, look great despite a less “bling-bling” summer transfer window. With the arrivals of Willian Pacho, João Neves and Matvey Safonov, and while waiting for that of Désiré Doué, the Parisian collective has strengthened and is once again emerging as the big favorite for this 2024-2025 season on the national scene. Now it remains to be seen what Luis Enrique’s choices will be…

A Safonov-Donnarumma duel?

Facing HAC on the first day of Ligue 1, this Friday evening (8:45 p.m.), PSG should, as such, keep its tactical system seen last year, namely a hybrid 4-3-3. In addition to the collective animation, it is the individual choices of the Spanish technician that will be particularly scrutinized in Le Havre. With this in mind, a first question arises. Who will start in the Ile-de-France goal? If Gianluigi Donnarumma remains the favorite of the predictions, the arrival of Matvey Safonov leaves, in fact, doubt hanging. An uncertainty that the former Barça coach did not wish to raise, this Thursday, at a press conference.

“I never say he will be number 1, 2 or 3. I want to see them in training and be ready when I call them.”assured the Iberian about the future hierarchy of goalkeepers. One thing is certain, whether it is the Russian or the Italian, the native of Gijón should rely on a defensive quartet to protect the last Parisian rampart. In the absence of Nuno Mendes, suspended against the Hacmens, Lucas Beraldo is logically expected to start on the left flank. In the axis, Marquinhos and the new recruit Willian Pacho are expected while Achraf Hakimi has a strong chance of being started on his right flank.

Neves and Pacho from the start, Ramos up front?

Back from the 2024 Olympic Games after winning the bronze medal with Morocco, the Parisian full-back should, in fact, hold his place, unless Luis Enrique decides otherwise. Carlos Soler or the young Yoram Zague could then claim the starting eleven. Further up the pitch, João Neves, who arrived this summer from Benfica, should be lined up alongside Vitinha and Warren Zaïre-Emery. A sector where Fabián Ruiz still has a good card to play, especially after his sparkling Euro with La Roja. Finally, on the offensive side and while waiting for other possible reinforcements between now and the end of the transfer window, Luis Enrique will rely on his protégés from last season.

So, Bradley Barcola is logically expected to lead the left wing of the Parisian attack. On the other side, Ousmane Dembélé should also have the confidence of his coach. The central question ultimately lies in the number 9 position… Who between Gonçalo Ramos or Randal Kolo Muani will start against the Ciel et Marine? At the time of writing, the Portuguese seems to be holding the rope but it would be too presumptuous to say so when we know the Parisian coach’s ability to surprise the crowds. It should also be remembered that the summer transfer window is still far from over and that this first eleven of the year should evolve in many ways…
