At the end of a crazy end to the match, Losc snatched their qualification for the Champions League play-offs after their draw on the Fenerbahçe pitch (1-1, 2-1 in the first leg).

Losc gave themselves a scare, but ensured the essential: qualification for the Champions League play-offs. After dominating Fenerbahçe (2-1) in the first leg thanks to Tiago Santos and a late goal from Edon Zhegrova, the Dogues snatched a draw (1-1) this Tuesday evening in the return leg in Istanbul, thus continuing their journey in the most prestigious of European competitions.

Bruno Genesio’s men had control of events in Turkey for a long time, putting in a serious and diligent performance. In an overheated atmosphere, a little too much even, with Lucas Chevalier receiving a projectile causing the match to be stopped for a few minutes, Lille were logically shaken in the final minutes of the match. The post even temporarily saved them (82e).

Lille unlucky, then lucky

But the Northerners fell back too far and ended up cracking on an unfortunate own goal from Diakité (1-0, 90e+2). Pushed into extra time, the Dogues saw the success turn in their favor with a controversial penalty awarded and converted by David (1-1, 118e). Two minutes later, the Turks hit the bar (120e), their last chance to push Losc to a penalty shootout.

Lille will now face Union Saint-Gilloise or Slavia Prague in the Champions League play-offs. The advantage goes to the Czech club for the moment, having won 3-1 on their home turf against the Belgian team.
