Marc Bourrier has passed away. The man who coached Olympique de Marseille in the mid-90s left us this Monday at the age of 89. The native of Ganges had been Raymond Goethals’ successor after OM’s 1993 Champions League title, but he was also the one who led the team after its relegation to D2 because of the OM/VA scandal. He also won the second division title in 1995 with the Marseille club.

The former Montpellier midfielder had an even more successful coaching career than his professional playing career. The Hérault native was assistant to a certain Michel Hidalgo between 1976 and 1984, with whom he became European champion in 84 on the bench of the French team of Platini, Lacombe and Giresse. With the Bleus, Bourrier also distinguished himself solo with a European champion title with the Espoirs in 1988.
