FC Barcelona has decided to change dimension in this summer transfer window. After a very disappointing year under Xavi Hernandez, the Catalan club has shown its limits, notably with a rather irregular squad. Offensively, some have disappointed and it was therefore necessary to make strong choices this summer to hope to become a European giant again and take back La Liga. In this sense, the club’s management has decided to entrust the keys to the truck to the German coach Hansi Flick, who was quick to make his demands known on the transfer market with several desired recruits.

In the offensive sector, the club’s main project in recent weeks, FC Barcelona managed to get ahead of Manchester City for the Spanish international Dani Olmo. The Blaugranas will pay more than 60 million euros to snatch him from Leipzig. But that’s not all. The big transfer file for Barça has been called for several weeks now: Nico Williams. The Bilbao winger, author of an exceptional Euro, is Barça’s priority at the left striker position, but it is a complicated file. Also coveted by PSG, the Spanish international has clearly made his choice in recent days.

Barça wants to blackmail

In a video published by his training club Bilbao, Nico Williams clearly announced his desire to quickly start the season with… Bilbao. So what is the conclusion of this file for FC Barcelona? Not really. While the club is also studying other avenues, the Catalan press revealed this Thursday morning that Barça has no intention of abandoning Nico Williams, on the contrary. According to the daily SportBarça believes that Nico Williams was forced by Bilbao to make this video to imply that he was going to stay. But president Joan Laporta still wants to recruit him and has made it clear to his entourage that the opportunity to join Barça will not arise again.

FC Barcelona has made a five-year offer with a gross salary of 12 million per year. A sum significantly higher than what Bilbao is offering in its contract extension. Above all, the Catalan club has the means to match its release clause of 62 million, but also to register it, without any problem, with La Liga. Barça is even very optimistic in this matter since it believes that Nico Williams will end up accepting its offer. It is now Laporta who will take charge of the file until now managed by the sporting director Deco. The idea is to push the player to force his departure and FC Barcelona considers that, as long as the player does not publicly declare his desire to stay in Bilbao, the door is always open. And the club’s strategy is based in particular on making Nico Williams understand that if he does not agree to join Barça this summer, he will miss the opportunity forever.
