Chelsea is starting a new season with a new coach and even new players. Since Todd Boehly bought the club, Chelsea has been marked by instability both on the bench and in the squad. This season, it is the former Leicester coach Enzo Maresca who will have the difficult task of making a team that lacks automatisms work. But for the moment, we cannot say that this is the case since the Blues have known defeat 3 times (in 5 matches) during the preparation.

And in a press conference, Enzo Maresca insisted on placing the blame on… Mauricio Pochettino in particular to justify the defensive weakness. “It’s a problem we’ve been trying to solve since pre-season, since day one. One of my first meetings with the team was about the number of goals we conceded last year with a very high defensive line. It’s something we’re trying to work on. Offensively, we’re there, the patterns are there. We’ve created chances. The problem is defensive; when I say defensive, I don’t just mean the defensive line, but all the players in general. It’s a habit. We don’t work on defensive lines that high. It’s a habit from last year, or years ago. We try to lower the defensive line a little bit, usually about four or five meters, just to have an advantage. Last year, we already conceded a lot of goals because of this problem. I hope we can solve it very soon.”he said.
