PSG have still not recruited a prolific striker to replace Kylian Mbappe. Julian Alvarez, one of their targets, is heading to Atletico.

The day after Joao Neves signed for Paris Saint-Germain, Parisian fans were hoping to see their club get moving and start to focus on the attacking sector, which was inevitably weakened after Kylian Mbappé left for Real Madrid. Among the most serious leads on the attacking front, the one leading to the Argentinian Julian Alvarez was undoubtedly the most exciting in the eyes of the fans.

The executioner of Les Bleus at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar and winner of the trophy with the Albiceleste, the former River Plate player then became an important member of the attacking rotation of Manchester City and won the Champions League there, as well as the Premier League these last two seasons. Unfortunately for PSG, his attractiveness is no longer what it was. According to Fabrizio Romano, Alvarez, 24, will sign with Atletico Madrid for a transfer estimated at 95 million by accumulating the potential bonuses.

Which striker to replace Mbappé?

A huge investment from the Spanish club, but one that could normally have been within Paris Saint-Germain’s reach. The discussions between PSG and City, then between PSG and Julian Alvarez, never progressed enough to allow the capital club to sign a striker of this calibre. And here he is, very close to becoming a Colchonero, while the French champions are forced to look for new leads.

At this point, the Red and Blues are still missing a prolific goalscorer, unless Luis Enrique has complete confidence in Randall Kolo Muani, Gonçalo Ramos or Bradley Barcola to compensate for Kylian Mbappé’s contribution in terms of goals scored…
