Spain qualified for the final of the Olympic football tournament on Monday, thanks to its stunning victory against Morocco (1-2). It will face the winner of France-Egypt.

The suspense was total until the final whistle, but at the end of a particularly tight and balanced match, it was Spain who raised their arms to the sky. Winners of Morocco this Monday in the semi-final of the 2024 Olympic football tournament (1-2), Santiago Denia’s men have earned themselves the right to play a final match to try to win the gold medal. It will be on Friday, August 9 at 6 p.m. at the Parc des Princes, either against France or Egypt.

The match was therefore undecided for a long time. During a first period in which the statistics of the two nations were almost identical, it was still the Moroccans who knew how to best pull out the stops by taking the lead thanks to the opening score on a penalty converted by Soufiane Rahimi (1-0, 37th). Enough to go to the locker room with a small lead.

Ferrmin turns everything upside down

Too small, however, to prevent Spain from getting back into the game. However, it would take more than an hour of play to witness this famous equaliser by Fermin Lopez (1-1, 66th), cruel for Morocco, but not undeserved for Spain. However, the Lions had several opportunities to make the break, and even to go back in front, but the precision was too much lacking in the last move.

On the Iberian side, however, the importance of Fermin Lopez was confirmed and the scorer this time turned into a passer for Juanlu Sanchez (1-2, 85th). Not defeated despite this new blow, the Moroccans pushed until the end, but without success. While waiting to know the winner of the other semi-final between the French and the Egyptians on Monday evening (9 p.m.), Spain can celebrate the fact that it will certainly win a medal. For Morocco, bronze remains an objective with a small final which will be played in Nantes this Thursday (5 p.m.).
