Recruited in the summer of 2023 for a check of 60 million euros, Manuel Ugarte, who recently played in the Copa América with the Celeste, was one of the big names announced on the departure from the French capital. Among those interested, Manchester United had quickly come forward and had agreed with the Uruguayan midfielder (22 caps) on the terms of a contract. And according to our information, the former Sporting player has indeed agreed to continue his career at Old Trafford.

Author of three assists in 37 matches in all competitions last season, the 23-year-old midfielder was therefore on the verge of leaving PSG, even though he was under contract until 2028. However, the Uruguayan’s transfer to Old Trafford is falling through. According to The AthleticManchester United have now decided to abandon the Manuel Ugarte track and prefer to turn to other candidates, in their quest for a new midfielder.

Ugarte too expensive for Manchester United

Indeed, Manchester United have no intention of paying the 60 million euros requested by Paris Saint-Germain to reach an agreement. Talks between the Premier League and their Ligue 1 counterparts have cooled down as the Red Devils have no intention of waiting until the end of the transfer window to sign a new midfield reinforcement. The American media outlet states that MU was ready to listen to PSG’s demands, but no progress has been made on the Parisian side.

A real blow for Manuel Ugarte, eager to regain playing time in a new club. Not necessarily meeting Luis Enrique’s expectations in this position, Ugarte hoped to go into exile in the Premier League to try to impose himself. With PSG, the Uruguayan had initially shone before gradually disappearing from the radar, particularly during the big European meetings, where he was not a starter in the six knockout matches of PSG.
