Valentin Carboni may not be the only Argentinian player to join Olympique de Marseille this summer.

If OM’s summer recruitment is already well advanced with Lilian Brassier, Ismaël Koné, Mason Greenwood, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Valentin Carboni, whose arrival is imminent, the goalkeeper position remains a big problem to resolve for the Marseille leaders.

Despite his aborted transfer to Como, last season’s number 1, Pau Lopez, is still being pushed towards the exit and his replacement, Ruben Blanco, was seriously injured during the friendly match between OM and Sunderland (2-2), his absence being estimated at several months.

There is therefore an urgent need for the Ciel et Blanc to find a new goalkeeper, as Simon Ngapandouetnbu is not destined to occupy the cage for the entire season, which begins in less than two weeks. An emergency that Pablo Longoria and the Olympian staff have become aware of.

A surprising track for OM

According to Fabrizio Romano, OM have thus started discussions with Ajax Amsterdam for Geronimo Rulli. Under contract until 2026 with the Dutch club, the Argentinian world champion (32 years old) has just been eliminated by the Bleuets at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The site Transfermarkt estimates his market value at 5 million euros, he who joined the Netherlands last summer for 8 million euros from Villarreal. Injured in the shoulder after his arrival at Ajax, he then had to be content with a role of understudy (7 matches).
