Clearly, PSG and Barça are going to have to use their imagination this summer. Eager to strengthen their midfield, the two clubs are indeed about to see a lead slip away from them, and not just any lead. While Joshua Kimmich’s future seemed to be written elsewhere than in Bavaria, where the German international remains under contract until June 2025, but where he has seen his status weaken in recent months, the idea of seeing him extend his stay there is now gaining momentum.
“In general, you can always talk to each other in a sensible way (with the management). I think all doors are open to everyone. Overall, I feel very comfortable here in Munich. All my children were born here, we built everything here. Of course, last season was not as successful as hoped. That is not Bayern Munich’s motto, nor mine for that matter. Now I am very hungry and full of energy for the new season.” said the player in comments reported by Sky Sports Germany in the last few hours.
Discussions for an extension have started
According to the German media, in recent hours there has even been a stage of advanced discussions between the player’s clan and the club. After nine seasons at Bayern Munich, it seems that Kimmich has reconsidered his position, and is now ready to sign for a tenth. Sky Sports explains that to date, PSG still wants to secure the services of the 29-year-old player, but that he wants to stay at Bayern.
Asked to comment on the situation, Bavarian CEO Max Eberl confirmed half-heartedly: “Joshua has been an important player for Bayern for many years, and he should continue to be so in the future”he said during the club’s Korean tour. Further talks are expected to take place in the coming days between the two parties, but Kimmich will have to agree to a salary cut to stay. Currently earning 20 million per year, the former Leipzig player no longer fits into Bayern’s new salary scale.
