OM made official on Sunday the arrival of a new player from Malmö. He is a Canadian international and plays in central defense.

We may know the new hinge of theOM. Argentinian Leonardo Balerdi, Marseille’s best defender last season, could now be partnered with Derek Cornelius. The transfer of the Canadian international (26 caps since 2018) was made official on Sunday with the now traditional photo of the signing with Pablo Longoria, the president of OM.

Cornelius, 26 years old and measuring 1.88m, played until then in Malmö (Sweden) after a stint in Vancouver (Major League Soccer). With the Canadian national team, he played in the Copa America 2024, as a starter, and was part of the group for the 2022 World Cup.

Derek Cornelius, who signed a 4-year contract with the Provençal club, is Marseille’s fifth summer recruit, not counting Italian coach Roberto de Zerbi, after his teammate in the national team, midfielder Ismaël Koné, English striker Mason Greenwood (Manchester United), French defender Lilian Brassier (Stade Brestois) and Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg (Tottenham).
